Kämper Map Centennial Celebration
German engineer Max Kämper visited Mammoth Cave on his 1908 trip to the United States, and paid his room and
board in part by surveying and mapping the great cave.  His resulting map, still considered accurate today, was the first measured map of the cave. The park, the Cave Research Foundation and Kämper descendants will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the map in October 2008. On Friday, October 10, a concert featuring Max Kämper's grandson, Klaus Kämper, a professional
cellist, and pianist-cave guide Janet Smith will be offered underground in the Methodist Church with activities beginning at 6 p.m. at the Visitor Center.
